There are generally two paths to consider for removing stretch marks - traditional or modern techniques. While traditional methods can be relied upon by many, modern methods are often praised as being the most effective and with several different techniques available, there is a modern removal method to suit everyone.
Surgery - seen as the most expensive technique available, the surgery procedure is carried out by either removing the affected skin completely or grafting skin from another area of the body onto the stretch marked skin. The first is generally carried out as part of a larger operation, such as a ‘tummy tuck’, in which the person’s stomach is reduced in size. The latter, a procedure often used for people with skin abnormalities, is one of the most widely carried out surgical procedures and has evolved a long way since its introduction. With many positive points, the only major negative aspect is that as it’s an invasive procedure, recovery times can be much longer than other removal methods.
Laser surgery - as the most recent form of stretch mark removal, laser surgery works best on newly developed marks. The process happens by directing a laser onto the affected area of the skin and removing the top layer. With this top layer of skin, the marks are removed. Furthermore, the lasers are said to induce and promote the growth of collagen in the affected area of the skin, helping to tighten the skin and reduce the risk of any further stretching in the future.
Lotions - Although many traditional methods revolve around a cream or lotion of some form, many of the modern lotions have been medically tried and tested and are now clinically proven to reduce the appearance of them in the first place. These lotions have shown positive removal results in 95%+ of people that it has been tested on. The majority of these moderrn lotions usually consist of skin hydrating ingredients and firming agents, and Vitimin E. A great modern lotion when applied correctly has many different benefits, from shortening marks to promoting natural collagen, all of which help with removal.
Vitamin supplements - in many people’s current diet, they do not receive the correct amount of vitamins, especially those that aid with healthy skin. Taking supplements for vitamin A, C and D, as well as a zinc capsule on a daily basis, should help to maintain healthy skin, which in turn reduces the prominence of stretch marks or the likelihood that they will occur.

When a celebrity gets pregnant, she too is in the risk of getting stretch marks… their is no way to avoid this risk. Below are a couple of A-List Celebs that have receive some of Natures “Badge of Honors”
Katie Holmes

Cindy Crawford

These women are still very beautiful and I am glad we can finally see a celebrity in their natural body instead of the retouch photos that many Websites and Magizines publish everyday.

One of the biggest Negatives of the Laser Stretch Mark Removal Procedure is that it is really expensive. There are thousands of women who paid more than $400 a session to “try” and get rid of their unwanted stretchmarks. Also keep in mind that it takes multiple sessions, in some cases up to 10 sessions, of the laser treatment to even see any practical changes. $400 x 10 = $4,000 and no garantee that the stretchmarks will go away.
Now as with any medical procedure, laser stretch mark removal is not completely without risk. The excimer laser has the ability to ablate/cut the skin, meaning it is possible that a mishandled laser could cause some superficial tissue damage. For this reason alone if you should choose to go this route, you should choose your cosmetic dermatologist carefully. There is always a risk that severely entrenched stretch marks may not be completely removable with laser treatment. There is also the risk of blistering and other negative reactions to the treatment, but these complications are temporary and not life threatening.

Q: Is it possible to get stretch marks all the way down your thigh? is there any way of keeping them from getting worse? waht is the worst you’ve seen? any links to any photos??
A: Well, the good news is that there are a lot of ways to prevent stretch marks from appearing. The unfortunate news is, you can’t always prevent them. Depending on your genetics and your skin, you might end up with some stretch marks, no matter how hard you try to prevent them. However, you can at least prevent them from being too severe. A few general rules that all men and women should follow to keep their skin healthy and flexible are: First of all you should always drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated and your skin moisturized. Dehydrated your skin becomes more susceptible to tears, or stretch marks. This is especially helpful for young men and women going through puberty, or pregnant women. You can’t prevent rapid growth spurts, or stomach expansions, but if your skin is well moisturized then it will react better to these sudden changes, enabling your skin to stretch normally. A very important thing to do is to keep a healthy diet, including eating vitamins. Make sure to eat plenty of vegetables and fruits. The nutrients in these foods are not only good for your personal health, but also is another way to keep your skin flexible and healthy…

Q: I know this girl and she has stretch marks on her legs but she is skinny and always have been skinny. She’s 18.
A: If you grow faster than your skin can keep up, you get stretch marks - So if you put on weight quickly, or are pregnant, or have a growth spurt, then sometimes your skin can’t keep up and you get stretch marks. My husband has them on his legs and hips from growing from a runty little 4′6 14 year-old to a 6′1 18 year old.

Q:I read in an article there mention that the glucocorticoid hormones responsible for the development of stretch marks affect the epidermis.. Is that Hormonal changes are causes for stretch marks..
A:The glucocorticoid hormones responsible for the development of stretch marks affect the epidermis by preventing the fibroblasts from forming collagen and elastic fibers, necessary to keep rapidly growing skin taut. This creates a lack of supportive material, as the skin is stretched and leads to dermal and epidermal tearing. If the epidermis and the dermis have been penetrated, laser will not remove the stretch marks.

Q: If rapid weight gain can cause stretch marks across the belly, breasts and thighs, why is it that placement of dramatically larger than before breast implants don’t cause stretch marks? Just curious.
A: Often times, they DO cause stretchmarks. However, a good doctor should give the patient vitamin E supplements and creams to help enhance skin’s elasticity pre and post op. Bad boob jobs, such as when doctors don’t recommend Vitamin E / go too big too fast, have visible stretch marks. Jennifer Ellison, a British actress and footballer Steven Gerard’s ex-girlfriend, is a prime example of a bad boob job that resulted in bad stretchmarks (good luck finding an unretouched picture of her, though!)
